Operation Decoration!

We’ve been painting the way to a brighter future…

For some people having a nicely painted and decorated house is a luxury they cannot afford. And for others, moving into a bare, empty house and decorating from scratch can be extremely daunting.

We have recently tackled some huge, challenging decorating projects, and we’re so excited to share the results with you.

Project 1

After the traumatic loss of their single mum, three siblings needed a little extra help. Their mum started decorating before becoming seriously ill, but unfortunately the house was left unfinished. We stepped in with the aim of making this house a welcoming, beautiful space that they were proud to live in for the next chapter of their lives.

We re-decorated each child’s bedroom and the hall, stairs and landing. Below are the before and after photos:

Project 2

Our next project enabled us to transform a dull, plain bedroom into a magical, happy place, fit for one very strong, brave girl, in serious need of a safe-space to escape to. Check out these amazing before and after photos below -

Project 3

After fleeing domestic violence, a single mum and her two sons relocated to a women’s refuge. The only belonging’s she was able to take was clothes and sentimental possessions. Since then, they managed to find a new home and to completely refurnish it, however the one thing that was proving difficult was to decorate. Mum struggles with mental health problems, so the idea of starting this task was daunting and overwhelming.

Fortunately, we were able to swoop in and save the day. We prepped, filled and painted two bedrooms and the lounge, making the environment more comfortable, safer and a more desirable space to live.

I would like to thank all the team for the great job they have done decorating this family home – the house looks like a home now and yesterday it was all clean and tidy with mum now having a sense of pride in how the home looks.

Project 4

Finally, the week we were able to tackle another home, transforming the children’s rooms, the doors, and the landing, and also providing a bed for mum and some extra storage.

As a team, we felt so passionate about helping this family. We asked one of the boys what colour he wanted his room, but he told us that he didn’t feel special enough to choose his own colour. This completely broke our heart, and we wanted to do as much as we could to help - to make him feel like he was incredibly special, and that his opinions mattered. Eventually, he told us that his favourite colour was dark blue - so this was exactly what colour we chose to paint that room!

Seeing the mother’s reaction to these amazing results was so heart-warming. She was unbelievably grateful, and she couldn’t believe what we’d achieved in just three days.

Thank you so much to everyone’s continuous support. Your financial donations towards our Forget-Me-Notts project have helped us to make these four houses into homes, so that these four families finally feel proud of where they live!

We also could not do these projects if we did not have the help from our wonderful volunteers! You don’t have to be a professional painter to get involved - so if you would like to get stuck into one of our decorating projects, please get in contact for more details.
