Mattress Matters...

Bed poverty affects thousands of vulnerable children across the UK. We all know how we feel when we don’t sleep well and many of you will know how children behave when they don’t get enough sleep.

While a growing number of UK children sleep on the floor or on poor quality mattresses (evidenced in the referrals Forget-Me-Notts receives every week) over 8 million used and unwanted new mattresses are sent to landfill each year in the UK alone.

I am so grateful to Allen and Ben at TEXTEK for partnering with Operation Orphan to help address bed poverty.

TEXTEK have developed a recycling process that will see over one million mattresses kept out of landfill each year. It is truly inspiring to see what is being achieved by this innovative company and a privilege to play our part in reducing the negative impact unwanted mattresses have on the environment.

Through our UK project Forget-Me-Notts we will be distributing new mattresses, destined for the landfill, to the most vulnerable children across the UK.

If you would like to be part of growing the reach of this initiative by helping us open more Forget-Me-Notts hubs across the UK please get in touch. The more of us working together the quicker we can help address this unseen yet life changing crisis.
