Collections in Slovakia
This was our very first collection of clothing in Slovakia for Slovak underprivileged children.
Three friends decided they would like to do something to help the children. I told them all about the wonderful work of Operation Orphan and they decided to organize a collection of coats and winter stuff.
We basically had a lovely coffee morning to decide on everyone’s roles and jobs. We got in touch with Operation Orphan to get hold of materials to help us. They made us a poster which we had printed and placed in several schools and organizations. Liora set up an event on Facebook and sent invitations far and wide. We had a great response from The British International School of Bratislava, The German School of Bratislava, Funiversity, The American Embassy, French Assosciation, UNDP and lots of kind individuals from Bratislava and Vienna as well.
Our collection day was Saturday 12th October at the BISB’s school parking lot. From 9am until midday individual people came steadily to drop off their donations which filled 15 boxes. Thanks to all the schools and businesses who also collected. We ended up with a total of 40 boxes.
We will shortly be giving these to the foster families in Blatne Remety through Viva Network and to the Nano Nagle Centre in Spisske Podhradie.
Thanks to everyone for helping to make this a success. Special thanks to Liora Freund and Nele Van Peteghem.
