Pins and Needles is good for us

The Pins and Needles Knitting Club from Bromsgrove got in touch after seeing a newspaper article appealing for blankets.

The six teenagers are working towards their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award and wanted to learn to knit for their skills section. We supplied them with information about our Keep a Child Warm project for them to use in their folders and they quickly got to work, keeping us updated about their progress.

“Thank you for your letter and photographs. We have put them up as a display. There are 6 of us in the ‘Pins and Needles’ club and we have all learned to cast on’ knit squares and cast off.”

“We have learnt something new and are helping people in need at the same time. That makes me feel very happy.”

“It has made us think that we are so fortunate to have a life without worrying about warmth and food.”

“We have nearly finished our squares and will sew them up into blankets.”

“I am really pleased that my lessons on needlework has meant my squares have helped make blankets for the orphans.”

The lovely blankets arrived with us yesterday and I am more than impressed with what the group have managed to achieve. Kira, Slaine, Lauren, Adam, Reece and Imogen commented how the project was very personal for them as they realised other children can be in such an unfortunate position. Kids helping kids – love it!
