Kick-Start with Kids League Kenya

Operation Orphan is delighted to represent Kids League Kenya internationally, and kick-start this new relationship alongside Banner with a launch football event!

The Kids League Kenya (KLK) is a charity registered in Kenya targeting Kongowea, a disadvantaged area in the suburbs of Mombasa.  It focuses on raising funds to offer scholarships for bright primary school leavers from Kongowea who would otherwise not attend a school suited to developing their talents.  The scholars attend selected boarding schools which can support their learning 24/7 while keeping them accommodated and safe.

Kids League offers continued support through University or College until the scholars have reached their potential and become employable adults.  Scholars are offered opportunities to showcase their skills by volunteering for the charity wherever possible, and finally, a website-based recruitment service through which scholars can advertise themselves to employers completes the package.

The launch football event, funded by Operation Orphan with sponsorship of uniform shirts from Banner, is taking place in Kongowea on July 21st during the end of term break, inviting the scholars and the local community to attend an introduction to ‘Sports-in-Development’ programming.  The day will be a fun and well-fed opportunity to experience how sport can be used to promote education and wellbeing.  Players will have access to environmental messaging from trained mentors and opportunities to expand friendships within a safe environment with a positive atmosphere.  It is envisaged that this event will be the launch pad for  holiday clubs in the future!

Kids League Kenya covers its admin costs by running a second hand shop allowing 100% of donated funds to be dedicated to its programmes.
