School FUNdraising!

Over the last few months of the 2015 school summer term, children up and down the country took part in a variety of fundraising events to raise money for our Nepal appeal.

Brad visited the English Martyrs’ Catholic Voluntary Academy, Long Eaton, Nottingham in May to talk to the children about the recent earthquakes in Nepal.  The highly emotive talk and videos had a real impact on the children and they followed it up with some great fundraising.  They held a non-uniform day and a group of children with collection boxes went out into the playground first thing in the morning and at home time.  They raised an amazing £401.86

Also in May, Southwark Primary School in Old Basford, Nottingham had a non-uniform day and raised a fantastic £329.19.  Queen’s Drive Primary School and Cottam Primary School in Preston, both held a yummy cake sale with the total ‘rising’ to 543.06!

Our most Northerly fundraising came from Ollaberry Primary School in the Shetland Isles.  The pupil council organised a spare change collection that was not only very successful, it also showed how creative they are!  The coins totalled £401.59 – a fabulous effort by all!

The children in years 5 and 6 at Mulbarton Junior School combined their topic of earthquakes and volcanoes with some exciting fundraising.  Mrs Burchell writes “As I was teaching them all music, we felt together we could not ignore the suffering so the children were keen to fundraise.  Therefore, each class produced a musical composition to convey what an earthquake was like and its effects and feelings of those involved.  We arranged for an assembly with these performances interspersed with individual and group musical and creative performances as well as PPT about the work of Operation Orphan.  They also produced all the posters for publicity, helped bake cakes and biscuits during the week, and sold them and served refreshments.  So many parents and families came to support and watch them and they raised £190.  They were so committed and enthusiastic about doing this and keen to support your amazing work – many came up to me today to find out how much we had raised.  It will be great to continue to see how you develop and continue your essential work in Nepal (and other countries) and it was a privilege to be part of it in such a small way”.

We are so grateful to all of these schools for their fundraising efforts; they raised a staggering £1865 between them!
