Half Marathon Fundraiser
Hello, I’m Debs and I completed my first ever half marathon in Nottingham on Sunday (30 September) to raise awareness and money for Operation Orphan.
As a 34 year old mummy of 2 little girlies I had not done anything like this since my school sports day!
The work of Operation Orphan has been inspiring. My motivation to tackle this challenge came from hearing the stories and seeing the pictures and videos of how people’s lives have been radically changed. I have been able to see these first hand from my parents (who work with Operation Orphan) and it truly inspired me to act.
What overwhelmed me the most and even moved me to tears was how people responded so generously when I introduced them to Operation Orphan and mentioned the word ‘sponsorship’. I’m really glad that I took the time to individually approach friends, relatives and colleagues personally rather than send a blanket email – it was well worth the effort as so far £800 has been raised.
Much to my surprise I absolutely loved doing the run, well, all except the last 2 miles! I did it in 2 hours 12 mins and I think I may now have got the bug and even attempt it again!!
