Janine's Big Birthday Run
Ever since I can remember I have always wanted to work with children and have desired to support children in need. When I met Cyrilyn and she told me all about Operation Orphan, I knew I wanted to be part of helping to raise funds for this great cause.
When I saw that the half marathon (Robin Hood) was on my birthday this year, i thought it would be great to enter and ask friends and family to make a donation instead of buying a gift for me.
On the day of the half marathon the sun was shining and I felt as ready as I could be. The support from the crowds was brilliant.
The way I would describe running the half marathon is a bit like living life. There were difficult moments of wanting ‘to give up’, times of joy and achievement as the supporters cheered me on to keep going. I had aches and pains in my left foot and knee but i kept focusing on the finishing line and that all the hard work and perseverance and commitment would be worth it, and it was! I completed the half marathon in 2 hours and 27 minutes and raised £400 for the great work Operation Orphan do.
