Covid-19: Winter 2021 Update

We’ve continued delivering essential services throughout all lockdowns, and we’re not stopping now.

The safety of the recipients of our services, our donors, and our team members, is our top priority in everything we do, so we are continually adapting the way we operate to ensure everyone’s safety and follow government guidance.

Although we are continuing to keep children around the world safe, warm, healthy and learning, things may look a little different for our UK-based donors, supporters and visitors - so please bear with us as we navigate the best ways to continue helping orphaned and vulnerable children throughout these unpredictable times.

In line with the most recent guidance, this is what we’re doing when we work with you:

  • Working from home where we can: our office-based staff will be working both from home and from the office where needed, which means that the office may not always be staffed. If you need to talk to us, please call us on 0115 896 9942.

  • Receiving donations by post or by appointment only: we can continue receiving donations of knitted and crocheted blankets and Amazon Wish List items by post. We can receive drop-offs of blankets and items of furniture at our office by appointment only, so please call us first if you have something you would like to donate. Please do not turn up at our office unannounced or leave items at our door. We will continue collecting large items of furniture from donor homes as arranged.

  • Taking measures during drop-off/collection appointments: we will arrange drop-off appointments to reduce contact between donors at our office. We will wear face coverings and maintain social distancing as much as possible during the appointment, and ask that you do the same if you are able. We are washing and sanitising our hands regularly both in the office and while we are out and about, and if you need to enter the office as part of a drop-off, we will provide hand sanitiser at the door for you to use too.

  • Asking you to let us know if you have symptoms of Covid-19 or a positive test result: if you have a donation collection or drop-off arranged with us, please do not attend but let us know if you or a member of your household is experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 or has received a positive test result, so we can rearrange.

  • Offering remote volunteering opportunities: our core volunteering team are helping us continue with our essential activities, but there are so may ways that new volunteers can help us remotely - contact us to find out more if you’d like to get involved.

What will never change:

  • We will continue working to support the most vulnerable children in our world: your support is integral in this, and we are so grateful for every donation, and social media share.

Thank you for your understanding and your cooperation.
